REL has quite a lot going on at the national and regional conferences for the American Academy of Religion. We sat down with the faculty to learn a little more about how they understand, navigate, and approach academic conferences—and they also have a little advice for any conference newcomers!

The “Discussing the ‘Nones’: What They Say about the Category of Religion and American Society” roundtable at the 2013 AAR comprised: Presider Chip Callahan (University of Missouri); Panelists Steven Ramey (University of Alabama), Sean McCloud (University of North Carolina, Charlotte), Monica Miller (Lehigh University); and Respondent Patricia O'Connell Killen (Gonzaga University). Prof. Steven Ramey (Dept. of Religious Studies at the University of Alabama) was the 2012-13 President of the Southeast AAR. He was also the first member of the Dept.'s faculty to serve the AAR in an executive capacity. Here he gives the Presidential Plenary Address for the 2013 regional AAR meeting.
