Website/Blog Management
Since 2011, I have been managing websites and blogs through different softwares and content management systems (CMS). Having no prior experience, my introduction to learning these skills was through Adobe Dreamweaver and WordPress. Given that I learned through practice, I have developed the skills to quickly learn how to customize and create webpages and web content through several different softwares and CMS (Adobe Dreamweaver; WordPress; Elementor; Acquia/Drupal; Squarespace; Wix; Cascade). Though I am not formally trained in HTML or CSS, I have learned a fair bit over the years and continue to teach myself along the way.
These skills have also helped me in building a Discord server to use as a centralized, online collaborative workspace (not unlike Slack or Teams) for The Religious Studies Project.
Web Management & Content Creation
Dept. of Religious Studies at the University of Alabama
While working in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Alabama (2011-14), I helped to maintain their former website which was run through Adobe Dreamweaver, a web design software. I learned how to create, edit, and customize web pages based on a preset template. I learned a little about coding for building new pages, making sure pages and their components functioned properly, and troubleshooting any errors. While I was there, I worked with the Dept. Chair and the IT office to help build and begin migrating the website from Dreamweaver to WordPress. In 2017, the REL officially migrated the site to WordPress, which is run through UA's eTech office but maintained by the Department. To see the new REL website, click here.
The Religious Studies Project
In November 2020, I started working as one of the website managers for The Religious Studies Project. As the international collaborative has grown, we have been working to streamline and standardize a variety of things on the website that have been added over the years. We manage the website via WordPress and customize the site and interface with Elementor. After becoming Managing Editor in April 2021, I have been working with my former co-editor (now our freelance tech consultant) on building a new website.
Emory University Libraries
From Apr. 2021-May 2022, I worked with Emory University Libraries’ Marketing & Communications Team assisting the Senior Web Content Strategist in maintaining and updating the libraries’ websites via Cascade. In October 2021, we began migrating the website to Drupal, and we maintained the site through Acquia Site Studio for Drupal. As part of this process, I was responsible for ensuring an accurate and up-to-date transfer of web content across Emory Libraries.
Blog Management
Culture on the Edge
Since 2013, I have been the online curator of Culture on the Edge, responsible for scheduling and editing posts, updating the website, and managing the blog.
Studying Religion in Culture
While working in REL, I also managed the Department blog which is managed through WordPress. I was responsible for scheduling, editing, and writing posts for a variety of departmental events. The two images feature various stages of the blog’s design and development.
